A great wine filled with complexity, nuance, and surprise. The nose is brightly aromatic with stone fruits, wildflowers, and fresh herbs. The texture is layered and firm with great sapidity, followed by a structured finish with a lasting salinity.

Points of Interest

The name Valle Bianca is the name given to this part of the hill where the old vines are planted in the traditional Tendone method. A field blend of the two grapes, Passerina and Malvasia Puntinata, Valle Bianca refers to the white clay, rich in limestone.

A distinct wine marked by red fruits like pomegranate and cherry, floral spice, juniper, forest floor and cured meat. The pallet is lively with acidity and tannin, balanced by a fruit concentration and freshness that makes this wine and region stand out strong.

The grape, pronounced (Chae-zah-NAE-say) is said to be the preferred grape of the ancient Romans. The Piglio region received its DOCG status in 2008. Many experts say Cesanese has the potential to be one of the great red grapes of Italy.

An elegant and refined expression of this native grape with sour cherry, rose petal, and pepper on the nose followed by delicate notes of leather and tobacco. On the palate the flavors are well defined but reserved, marked by a sophisticated finish.

A savory wine on the nose with dark wild fruits, sour cherry, and forest floor. A dense and powerful wine on the nose and through the palate with profound texture, flavors of black currant, blackberry, cocoa, walnut, and beef fat. Completed by a complex finish that will age for many years to come.

The “Bolla” is a name reserved for the most important religious documents in Italian. Pileum makes many different Cesanese wines, but this bottling represents something truly special, almost sacred. This is the top cuvee from the estate highlighting the old vines in the best terroir. 1,000 cases produced with native yeast fermentation and 20 months aging in both large and small neutral barrels.
